Our featherweight folder is based on the Dahon Boardwalk, which at 28 pounds is one of the lighter 20″ wheel folding bikes available.
Our featherweight folding bike begins with a Dahon Boardwalk folding bicycle. To this we add a lightweight front hub motor and a lightweight but powerful battery. Don’t be deceived by the fact that this bike only has one speed. Additional speeds aren’t necessary: this bike can out-climb any human-powered bike. Yet it’s small enough and light enough you can carry it upstairs to an office or apartment and recharge it under your desk.
The Dahon Boardwalk is a remarkable achievement: inexpensive, lightweight, and very capable. With its long seat post it fits adults of all sizes as well as kids. Unlike other inexpensive folders its joints are easy to manipulate and they snap securely. Its folded size is 31 x 78 x 65 cm (12.1 x 30.4 x 25.4 inches). The Boardwalk comes with fenders, a rack, front v-brakes and a rear “coaster” brake.
Our Featherweight Folders are equipped with a Cute Q85 geared front hub motor capable of putting out about half a horsepower (400 watts) but weighing less than five pounds.
The Featherweight derives its energy from a 36v10ah 18-mile range Type 3 rack-mounted battery.
